On Sunday, May 18, approximately 300 RGI employees and family members got together at Fred Deadman Park in Manchester, Tennessee. Although the weather forecast called for rain, employees and their loved ones would not be denied a good time. (And the children would not be denied the opportunity to see their parents’ head supervisor in the dunking booth.)
The day kicked off a little after noon with some great food including hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken, barbecue, slaw and desserts. While everyone was either eating or waiting in line, SMA Manager David Denton drew ticket stubs for a wealth of door prizes. In fact one whole wall of the dining hall was filled with the goodies that included coolers, camping gear, T-shirts and caps from Bass Pro Shop and even a full-size gas grill (taken home by Tommy Upchurch of RGI’s newly acquired Rutherford County Construction).
Indeed, there was rain that day, but fortunately it tapered off about the time everyone finished eating and taking prizes to their cars. The sun emerged to quickly dry up the grounds for some outdoor fun. Two large inflatable games and a face painting station provided great distractions for the kids, while the adults got to know one another. As widespread as the SMA is, this was rare opportunity for employees to meet.
And of course there was the dunking booth, which was graced by the presence of Tim Gorman, Kevin Norrod and other members of management. But where was David Denton? Enjoying the event with everyone else but not planning to get into the booth. Someone (whose initials are Regina Johnson) began a petition to get Mr. Denton into the booth. This petition was signed not by employees but by their adorable-faced, irresistible children, who were lining up to be the dunk-ers. Sure enough, Mr. Denton changed into shorts and a T-shirt, got in the booth and got wet just like the others. “The first dunk was the worst,” he said. “After that, the water was fine.”
The event was well-planned by Construction Accountant Sylvia Hargis, who wished to thank Kim Bush, Bobby Finney, Kevin Norrod, Tim Gorman, and TJ Overstreet for their help.
Everyone had a great time celebrating 100 years of Rogers Group!

Approximately 300 people attended the event. That’s a lot of mouths to feed!

When someone’s ticket number was called, they were allowed to choose a prize from the prize wall.
