Ann Finley's senior physics class of Springfield High School, Springfield, TN, visited the Cross Plains Quarry on December 1. Mrs. Finley and ten of her students had been studying seismic waves and seismographs recently in class. This was a perfect opportunity for them to experience the real thing.
The class witnessed a shot at the Cross Plains Quarry and was given a seismograph readout. The readouts, monitoring and safety procedures were then explained.
They were also interested in the crushing plant and the principles of crushing rock. Randy Hand, Manager of the both Gallatin and Cross Plains and David Lyon of Production Services were present to answer questions for the group.
Each person was given a copy of the Conveyor Express before they left. David Lyon's son Josh, a member of the class, was responsible for arranging the guided tour.
