| The Soil Conservation Service
provides leadership and administers several programs to help people conserve, improve, and
sustain natural resources and the environment. The Soil Conservation Service
provides environmental education information through Project Sammy Soil which teaches K-8
students about soil and water conservation. The Soil Conservation Service works with
4-H and Future Farmers of America clubs in co-operation with local high schools.
Activities raise awareness, commitment and responsible action on behalf of the
environment by students and residents. Rogers Group was pleased to assist in the sponsorship of an awards banquet held at Gallatin City Hall, Gallatin TN on December 3, 1998. Event highlights follow: The theme for this year's poster contest was "Wonders of Wildlife". The poster contest is for children K-5. Winners were Katelyn Venable, 1st place, Shannon Hunter, 2nd place, and Matthew Poole, 3rd Place. Land judging has each team taking soil samples and performing tests and ratings. The land judging team award winner was Gallatin Senior High School, Gallatin, TN. Conservation Farmer of the Year was Meadowbrook Farms, Westmoreland TN. Richard Denning, G.D. Denning and Jerry Denning. Rogers Group is pleased to provide support to this important education outreach. The Sumner County Soil Conservation Office appreciates the sponsorship and support of individuals, organizations and business.
