National Science Teacher's Convention
December, 1997 Opryland Hotel, Nashville, TN

Volunteer Talks to Teachers The Minerals Education Coalition Booth at the National Science Teacher's Association Area Conventions have consistently drawn a high level of interest. Approximately 1,500 teachers passed through the booth during convention. Most teachers have never had an opportunity to meet and talk to a real, live "miner". It was a terrific opportunity to provide quality, one-on-one contact between teachers and the mining industry. Teachers were treated to all types of information, samples, and a wealth of knowledge provided by the many volunteer booth workers available during the three day exhibit. The goal of the booth is to expose teachers, and ultimately their students, to the fact that mining and minerals are essential to our modern standard of living.
