Children need to play. They need to run. They need to be healthy. And RGI’s Mid-Central Division is helping one Sumner County School provide a good place for children to walk, run and play.
Guild Elementary School in Gallatin is in one of the most poverty-stricken areas of Sumner County. Over 70 percent of the school’s 605 students qualify for the free or reduced price lunches, an indicator of the area’s poverty level. But that did not keep school officials from wanting the best for their students. To help the fight against the growing problem of obesity, Physical Education Teacher Bobby Ridings makes all of the students run two laps around the school’s playing field before they enjoy recess. But they needed a better place to run. That’s where Rogers Group came in.
When the school asked if Rogers Group would be able to help with the new walking track, they were quick to agree. After Estimator Ricky Sanford found out what materials were needed, Mid-Central donated them, and Gallatin Construction performed the work.
Guild Principal Lance Taylor praised Rogers Group’s willingness to step up and help make it possible for the students to have a nice walking track like other schools in more affluent areas of the county.
