Working with T.W. Hunter to achieve a Goal

Rogers Group adopted school T.W. Hunter Middle School didn't have a traditional honey-colored wooden floor because the building wasn't intended to be a middle school. The concrete floor with its thin topping of tile was designed for elementary students to play on.

In early 1994, the students began fund-raising. The students held bake sales, car washes, and a wide variety of other efforts. Rogers Goup joined these students as a partner by sponsoring and promoting a concert featuring Ricky Scaggs, the Whites, and other country music performers to help them raise funds. The school was able to raise $15,000 through their endeavors. It still wasn't enough.

In the fall of 1997, Rogers Group community relations specialist, Julia Whittington, told members of the Sumner County Board of Education that the school has raised $15,000 through various endeavors, and stated that Rogers Group would match that amount if the Board would fund the remainder, approximately $45,000. The Board agreed.

On November 17, 1997, Rogers Group participated with T.W. Hunter students, members of the Sumner County Board of Education and the Sumner County Commissioners in a ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate the new floor.

As a special gift, Rogers Group purchased a public address system for use at the gym.
