Is it the landing sight for a celestial air
craft? No, it is the latest safety feature of RGIs Algood Quarry. The Big Yellow Rock is the creation of Eddie Mercer and J. Lynn Maynard, who are two of the loader men at the Algood Quarry. Algoods site is spread out in a manner that the office and scales are out of sight of most of the quarry and stock piles. Customers in pickup trucks not familiar with the routine were causing a safety hazard. They did not know where to go to get loaded, got behind equipment, parked in the roadways and other hazards. |
The Big Yellow Rock provides our customers with a clear visual indicator of where they should go in our quarry operation. |

Now, the customer
tare weighs at the scale. The truck scale clerk asks what type of rock they need and sends
the pickup to the Big Yellow Rock. The scale operator radios the loader operator to tell
them what product the pickup wants. The loader operators goes to the Big Yellow Rock and
has the customer follow them to the pile, loads them, and the pickup heads back to the
scale to pay for their purchase. Eddie and J. Lynn have helped simplify the process for the customer, the scale clerk, and themselves while improving safety on the job. |
