In Algood, an innovative
new system is being tested to speed up service. Every
ticket for every load over the scales must be signed or
verified, even when several loads of material and their
tickets are for the same job. The original "Ticket
Verification System," using video cameras, is now
getting trucks across the scales from 5 to 20 seconds per
ticket faster. How does it work? "Two video cameras shoot pictures of the truck and the driver," explains Administrative Coordinator Barbara DelMonaco. "A VCR records a frame every two seconds, so we have a videotape of every transaction and the drivers don't have to sign every ticket." Some signatures are hard to read and the identification could be doubtful, but there is no doubt with this system. A video tape lasts about a month and is kept for documentation, and a small device can print out individual frames to verify any transaction. "It saves us time to not have to sign the ticket for every load, every time," says Terry Cumby, driver for Suburban Supply, a concrete customer in Algood. |
