The East Tennessee SMA found a great community service project and in the process surpassed their 100-hour goal for the year!
It all started when Area Production Manager Ronny Buttrum attended a regular meeting of the parent-teacher organization of South Clinton Elementary School. At the meeting, Ronny learned that the school needed a new playground but lacked the $3,000 needed to build it. Enter Rogers Group.
Area Sales Manager Bill Chesney, Sales Rep. Jack Lovely, Area Controller Dennis McGraw, Oak Ridge Superintendent Ken Wytiaz, Ronny Buttrum and SMA Manager Dave Rechter all helped make the playground a reality for the kids.
In a thank you note, School Principal Lori Collins remarked, “The hours that you spent in the mud, rain and heat will never be forgotten. Your hard work, compassion and volunteer spirit represents characteristics we want our students to see examples of and develop in their own lives. You are all wonderful role models. South Clinton Elementary School is blessed to have the support of your organization.”
Clinton Mayor Wimp Shoopman and City Manager Steve Jones also took the time to stop by and thank the ETN group for helping out the kids and the community.
With this one project, ETN logged 145 hours of community service – far beyond their goal of 100 hours of community service commemorating 100 years of Rogers Group!
