Oak Ridge Quarry Builds Retaining Walls Stone by Stone

Stone was the material of choice when man first decided to build fencing and walls. Stone remains a popular choice. It's no wonder that commercial developers are choosing to build natural limestone retaining walls with ever increasing frequency.

Enhancing a landscape with stone allows people to reconnect with natural surroundings. What's more, natural limestone retaining walls are enduring and charming with striking combinations of textures and materials no concrete product can match.

Oak Ridge Quarry is now producing 10-14" Rip Rap that is used in one-of-a-kind natural limestone retaining walls. Working closely with a local general contractor, the quarry committed to maintaining an exclusive stockpile area and providing a consistently sized stone. The color of the stone and the delivery schedule were other important customer criteria.

"One of the keys to the overall success of this new project was constant communication between both companies. Before we got started, we held a meeting that resulted in everyone having a clear idea of the limitations, constraints, and special needs the other company faced," said Bill Chesney, Account Manager.

"We were able to work together based on this foundation of knowledge. Overtime and second shift workers were unnecessary as a result of daily communications and allowed us to maintain profitability on the item."

"The close contact allowed better production and delivery schedule planning," said Chris Bishop, Superintendent.

"We were able to meet our other stone production schedules without interruption."

Consistently sized stone is the critical element when
meeting limestone retaining wall demand.

Although many material choices for retaining walls are available, the general contractor choose to build the 350-foot long wall from limestone because it was very economical and offered the added advantage of beauty and strength.

Oak Ridge Quarry benefited by developing a new product for sale. 10-14" Rip Rap sales demand is expected to increase significantly as more contractors offer the option to potential customers.
