Charles Davis Foundation "Giving Back to Future"

Tricia Hicks and Jenni Keith of Nashville went to the Charles Davis Foundation in April to present a check for $6,500 for t-shirts for CDF’s Camp P.E.A.C.E. summer program. The program’s name stands for “Positive, Educational, Athletic, Cultural and Economic development.”

Charles Davis grew up in a Nashville housing project, and founded the Nashville organization in 1982 after his rookie season of a 12-year NBA professional basketball career. He hoped to empower youth to develop their talents, overcome obstacles, and reach their full potential. The Foundation helps build young people’s self esteem by increasing their personal sense of belonging, competence, usefulness, and influence. They provide constructive programming, resources, and supportive relationships with caring adults. Services include tutoring, assistance with school assignments, positive role models, resources and opportunities for achievement, but most of all love and understanding for each child.

Approximately 1000 kids ranging in age from 8-15 are enrolled at a cost of $500 each, covered by community donations for educational components, arts and crafts, and sports. The sports program includes basketball coached by Charles Davis, a former NBA player, as well as golf and tennis.

Trivia Contest: Traditionally, an NBA player chooses to continue to wear his same uniform number from high school in college and in the NBA. When Charles joined the Chicago Bulls, what rookie player refused to give up his number to Charles?

Email or mail (no phone entries please) your answer to Jenni Keith in Nashville (421 Great Circle Road, Nashville, TN, 37228) by June 30. Title your response "Trivia Contest." There will be a drawing from all correct answers for a very special prize.
