You know magic is in the air when people join together to make a wish come true.
M-I-C-K-E-Y spelled out the wish for Dallas, our Make-A-Wish Foundation child. With help from the caring individuals in our Nashville office, Dallas will soon visit all the Disney characters. The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. Nashville Family Shelter will also benefit from our fundraising efforts.
Featured in this year's 10th annual charity fundraiser were Jeff Bartlett, Donna Morton, Todd Creasy, Marsha Pierce, Steve Fogle, Debbie Abarientos, Joe Clevenger and Lauri Chaudoin who faced off in an "Extreme Challenge" competition to raise money. After viewing some fun and challenging events, Nashville employees paid for the priviledge of narrowing down their list of favorite performers to a single winner. Lauri Chaudoin came out on top.
Some event highlights follows:
- Appetite, speed, and technique was key when contestants kicked off events with an eating contest. After wolfing down the equivalent of five meals each, participants rushed out to the high adventure excitement of rock-climbing up a tall pillar.
- Laughter was in the air when classic tv show The Newlywed Game made a one-stop only reappearance at Rogers. Featuring our very own Bob Eubanks (A.K.A. Steve Masie), four never married couples answered amusing and personal questions designed to uncover how well the "spouses" knew each other.
- With his appearance on TV hit show The Dating Game, Todd Creasy took us back to a time when hip huggers and bell-bottoms were a new fad, and polyester leisure suits and tie-dyed tee shirts also ruled. Bachlors and Bachlorettes stepped through the flower-speckled rotating partitions for the first of many, many laughs. Guest appearances by Pam Williamson, daughter of CEO Don Williamson and Metro policeman Don Long did the selecting honors.
- Left Foot Red, Right Hand Green. Left Hand Yellow, now Right Hand Blue. Uh, oh.
Playing a ready to rumble, WWF version of the game that ties you up in knots, Twister. Contestants were grateful for any previous yoga or circus contortionist experience they might have possessed.- No experience was necessary as bowlers gathered at Cumberland Lanes for a glow-in-the-dark "Showdown at the Bowl-a-thon". Build your own sundaes are a popular dessert request, but Steve Fogle introduced a new menu item with his version of the build-your-own banana split. Worthy of a stint at the Improv, stand-up comic Bubba (A.K.A. Jeff Bartlett) told a few jokes. With her silver gloved, money wrangling, moon walking impression of Michael Jackson, Lauri Chaudoin wowed the crowd.
The key to any successful fundraiser is plenty of participation and donations. The 2003 Extreme Challenge Bowl-a-thon did just that.
Total money collected to support Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Nashville Family Shelter was ....... $8,618.75 !!!!!!!!!
Special thanks to event organizers Ben Corbett, Chair, Steve Masie, Co-Chair, Diane Lawbaugh, Connie Edwards, Carolyn Overton, Jayne Johnson, Fran Bellante, Deb McCarver for a wonderful job.
