Rogers Group Named 1999 Prime Contractor Of Year by TDOT

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) named Rogers Group, Inc. the 1999 "Prime Contractor of the Year" for our Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) initiatives. Commissioner Bruce Saltsman and Civil Rights Director Alvin Pearson presented the award to RGI's DBE Liaison Officer, Monte Lester during the awards luncheon at their annual Small Business Development Conference. Over 450 registered attendees were present.

The award is presented annually to a company or individual who shows great support for small business through innovative actions and programs that assist in the development and support of small businesses. Voting results from TDOT's certified DBE's were added to this year's award criteria.

This is the second consecutive year (3 times overall) that RGI has received this award from TDOT. The first time was in 1995. Such recognition requires a coordinated effort between various Corporate departments and all levels of management throughout the entire Southern Region.

"According to the DOT's staff, the competition was close this year," explains Monte Lester. "We believe partnering with high quality small businesses is the right thing to do, but we also think it makes good business sense. Our competition is finding that to be true also and is now doing more than ever with their DBE initiatives. Our prompt payment of subcontractors policy and our willingness to go the extra mile to enhance DBE and TDOT working relations, helped make us this year's choice prime contractor among our DBE constituents."

As TDOT's Civil Rights Director, Alvin Pearson, said to the assembled conference attendees, "in the area of DBE initiatives, Rogers Group, you're simply the best!"
