During October Western Kentucky Construction has completed the last phase of Highway 68/80 seven months ahead of schedule. Highway 68/80 is a newly built four-lane road that runs from Bowling Green to Cadiz Kentucky.
Rogers Group Inc. had four different sections of Highway 68/80 to complete this year:
- Highway 68 West, consisting of 4.1 miles (45,000 tons of crush stone base and 60,000 tons of Asphalt).
- The Southeast Bypass, consisting of 3.3 miles (41,000 tons of crush stone base and 54,000 tons of Asphalt).
- Highway 68 East, consisting of 4.4 miles (126,000 tons of Crush Stone Base and 82,000 tons of Asphalt).
- Todd / Christian County, consisting of 4.5 miles (24,000 tons of Asphalt).
The projects were begun October 10, 1998 and were scheduled to be completed on May 16, 2000, but the Kentucky Department of Transportation (KTOD) asked Rogers Western Kentucky Construction to finish the projects earlier because the governor wanted a ribbon cutting ceremony on October 15, 1999. With the help of all their sub-contractors and the good weather they've enjoyed they were able to finish the job on October 12, 1999, seven months early.
These projects used a total of 212,000 tons of stone and 220,000 tons of asphalt. Western Kentucky SBU can celebrate another good year as a result. Special thanks goes to all of the Western Kentucky Construction crews, the Asphalt Plant and the Quarry personnel who made this happen.
