Every company wants to delight its customers. Customers want good service, quickly and we have all heard of "just in time" delivery, and that is exactly what the employees at Bullitt County Stone did.
Service exactly how the customer wanted it.
A 3-day, 24-hours a day, continuous 14,500 cubic yard concrete pour out of two separate plants was what IMI Concrete had in mind. The pour translates to a 15,000 ton stone sale for Rogers.
"We appreciate the confidence that IMI placed in us to be the sole supplier for this job to their Selinda Avenue and Southern Indiana plants," said Les Geralds, VP.
"Much of the job was supplied with just one employee on-site operating a loader with no one in the office. We were able to use our unattended, remote ticketing system for the early morning and night-time hours."
Michelle Hodges operated the scale during the day. Charlie Edmonds, Rick Coates, George Ice, and Jose Espinoza each took a turn operating a loader over the three-day period. Jerry Waddle was available via digital pager for anyone at IMI or RGI who needed assistance or additional help.
IMI's customer was the Army Corp of Engineers. The concrete was used at the McAlpine Locks and Dam on the Ohio River near downtown Louisville. Concrete was used to fill cells ranging in size from 60-79 feet in the coffer style dam so water could be blocked off and renovation work on the dam could begin. IMI had as many as 35 trucks working at one time to complete the order.
"We got ourselves organized, had our scale system backup moved to a different time, crushed a little longer each day to make sure we had plenty of product available, and did a super job getting the trucks out of the yard quickly," said Ken Caldwell, Superintendent.
"We actually supplied material for 10,000 cubic yards of concrete and then had to stop because water levels at the dam were rising high. We finished up the remaining 4,500 cubic yards the following Monday. It all went smoothly and I believe our customer was very satisfied with the way it turned out."
The job was completed on Monday, March 19.
