Rogers Group Partners With Hillview to Upgrade for Y2K

A relationship between the City of Hillview, Kentucky and Rogers Group, one of its corporate citizens, has yielded a new software package for the city to manage its property tax system, according to Rogers' Central Kentucky Vice President Les Geralds.

"As part of our long standing relationship with the City of Hillview, Rogers Group had offered the services of our Information Systems experts to Mayor Powell to help the city assess its Y2K readiness," explained Geralds. "Our Y2K Project Manager Lynne Hall initially worked with the city's administrative staff to evaluate their systems and ended up helping them develop a new program.

After advising the city on necessary upgrades to its equipment, systems, and software, Rogers helped Hillview by donating three PC systems, contract services to set up those new PCs and network service setup for the city offices and Police Department PCs.

"While evaluating and documenting Hillview's systems, we realized the property tax system could work more efficiently and accurately in conjunction with existing city and county records if a new program were created," Lynne said. "A software design company helped us create a new system that we expect to save the city processing overtime and maintain more accurate tax records."

Other cities in the area have become aware of the software, and KBM, the company who designed it, will package and sell the program with $50 from each sale going to the City of Hillview. Rogers Group has deferred any rights to the software.

"Hillview is proud to be one of only a few cities in the Commonwealth who have completed the work to be ready for the Year 2000," claimed Hillview Mayor Leemon Powell. "Rogers Group's help in replacing our property tax system will allow us to better serve the community by eliminating much of the manual work involved with tax bills and improving the accuracy of the bills."

"Rogers is a good neighbor in Hillview, we're grateful for their involvement in helping us prepare for the new millenium,"; he continued. Following recommendations from Rogers, Hillview has also contacted their most important suppliers to determine their Y2K readiness.
