CKY Volunteers Help Local Cemetery
Fairview Cemetery, a community cemetery near Shelbyville, Kentucky, needed help. The road going through the cemetery had not been maintained for many years and had become overgrown with grass. People visiting their loved ones’ gravesites had to guess where the road was, especially when it rained. Often, graveside service attendees had to drive through mud to get to the right burial plot.

While the problem was evident, there were no funds available to repair the road. Rogers Group employees in the Central Kentucky SMA decided to help. After determining the necessary equipment, they coordinated their efforts with Brent Davenport of Davenport Trucking, who volunteered his time, his driver and the use of his truck to transport the crushed stone (donated by RGI, of course).

RGI employees who lent a hand included Jefferson County Stone’s Manager Kevin Phillips, Superintendents Rob Swift and Matt Kelly, Foreman Jim Webb, Sales Account Manager Britt Rhodes and Area VP/SMA Manager Les Geralds.

Through this community service effort, the Central Kentucky SMA logged 24 man-hours toward their goal of 100 hours of community service to commemorate 100 years of Rogers Group.
