Bloomington Field Office Clerk Crystal Drake and Administrative Coordinator Lois Hawkins recently volunteered a couple of hours to participate in the Meal Share Repack program organized by the Hoosier Hills Food Bank. This program makes nutritious meals available to agencies that distribute those meals to local people in need. The food is prepared by participating restaurants specifically for donation (not from scraps), and sent to the food bank, where it is divided, sorted and frozen for distribution to agencies that see that the heat-and-serve meals get into the hands of those who need them.
The Hoosier Hills Food Bank runs this repack program three nights a week, and they never know how much or what kinds of foods that will appear. This keep the staff and volunteers on their toes.
The Food Bank recently purchased a larger facility and will be relocating down the street from the RGI offices in Bloomington. This will provide some very handy volunteering opportunities in the future.
