Rogers Group has been named 1998 Prime Contractor of the Year by the Tennessee Department of Transportation's Small Business Development Center.
The award is presented annually to a company or individual who shows great support for small business through leadership and actions in implementing innovative ideas or programs that assist in the development and support of small businesses. Rogers also won this award in 1995.
Rogers co-sponsored workshops with the UT Contractor Resource Center of TDOT on topics like Year 2000 presented by Lynne Hall and Safety Procedures by Ed Elliott, all coordinated by Monte Lester. Monte, Tom Bridgwaters and Milton Johnson participated in the National Civil Rights Conference in Denver, and Monte and Cecil Cook facilitate pre-bid meetings before major lettings to introduce small businesses to RGI's subcontract process.
Rogers was also the first prime contractor to participate in TDOT's pilot program to involve subcontractors in the partnering process. (We have been involved in partnering as a general contractor previously; this was the first effort to include subcontractors.) Our Northern Middle Tennessee SBU worked with a small business to assist in scheduling work item coordination on an area construction project.
Cecil Cook, Monte Lester, Debbie Melton, John Powers and Rick Turner attended the awards luncheon, and Monte accepted the award on Rogers' behalf. This award recognizes a total team effort by members of several RGI departments, TDOT, and many minority- and women-owned businesses. Congratulations to all on truly creating opportunities for people to succeed.
