ROGERS GROUP RECEIVES
ETHICS AWARD FOR BUSINESS PRACTICESRogers Group, Inc., the nation's largest privately held crushed stone producer and active in highway construction, was chosen from over 100 nominees to receive the 2004 Tennessee American Business Ethics Award in the mid-size category.
"Rogers has a long-standing and strong commitment to ethical behavior over its 96-year history," said Don Williamson, President and CEO, at the awards banquet attended by community leaders.
Sponsored by the Society of Financial Service Professionals, this honor recognizes companies who exemplify high standards of ethical behavior in their everyday business conduct and in response to specific crises or challenges. An independent panel of experts drawn from business, academia, public service, media, consulting, and the ethics communities served as TABEA judges.
Commenting on the award, Dr. Harry Hollis, Nashville business ethicist, said, "The Tennessee American Business Ethics Award is a very high honor given only to companies that demonstrate a very high commitment to business ethics. Businesses that receive this award must first face careful and rigorous scrutiny of ethics systems and practices. No doubt Rogers was chosen because of the integrity of its leadership and its long history of ethical responsibility in its relationships with customers and the communities it serves."
Rogers Group received high marks for its commitment to safety, excellent customer and community relations, concern for the environment, and support provided to its communities' civic and charitable organizations.
"Maintaining ethical standards requires ongoing training and development," said Williamson. "We train new employees on our core values and leaders attend annual training that includes ethics issues. Our employee satisfaction surveys indicate a strong awareness of the importance of ethics in our organization."
"Our company will do the right things based on unwavering integrity and excellence in every undertaking. This is at the core of our corporate values."
Rogers Group, with headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee, employs 1,500 people in five states. The growing 97-year-old construction products company provides crushed stone, sand and gravel, asphalt, highway construction, and concrete masonry to the south-central United States. Annual sales are in excess of $350,000,000.
